What is Osteopathy?
Osteopathy is a manual therapy
that deals with a large variety of musculoskeletal problems.
Osteopaths are trained to diagnose and treat all parts of the human
body, not only the spine. The profession of Osteopathy was founded
in the 1880's by Amercian doctor Dr Andrew Taylor Still, and has
grown into a world wide therapy and one of the most
effective, scientifically proven and complementary therapy
options available.
Osteopaths are taught to
diagnose musculoskeletal problems and fixed them with their hands.
We are able to do this by using our extensive medical education
coupled with training in different manual therapy methods. Our
Osteopaths aim to meet every patient’s personal needs and goals.
Sometimes a referral for medical intervention i.e. x-ray’s, CT's or
ultrasound is necessary but in most cases this is not required.
Osteopathic treatment methods
can range from gentle cranial and functional techniques to more
direct techniques such as soft tissue massage, muscle energy or
manipulation techniques.
